Master <strong>of</strong> Business (Information<br />
<strong>Technology</strong>)<br />
The Master <strong>of</strong> Business (Information <strong>Technology</strong>) involves four<br />
years part-time study.<br />
Course objectives<br />
This course builds on the Graduate Diploma in Management<br />
Systems to provide additional management and business<br />
knowledge for students. The primary aim is to enhance the<br />
participants' ability to function as top level managers,<br />
advisers and consultants to industry and government.<br />
Emphasis is placed upon:<br />
understanding the business potential <strong>of</strong> the latest<br />
developments and innovations in information technology;<br />
forecasting potential information technology trends for<br />
organisations;<br />
selecting, evaluating and measuring the effectiveness <strong>of</strong><br />
information technology solutions;<br />
planning and controlling the changes brought about in<br />
organisations by the introduction <strong>of</strong> strategically<br />
important systems; and<br />
conducting research into an area <strong>of</strong> information<br />
technology selected by the student.<br />
Course structure<br />
The Graduate Diploma in Management Systems forms the<br />
first two vears <strong>of</strong> the Master <strong>of</strong> Business (Information<br />
~echnolo~~). Candidates in that course wishing to proceed to<br />
the Master <strong>of</strong> Business (Information <strong>Technology</strong>) should<br />
choose the elective pair:<br />

Admission requirements<br />
Entrance requirements are as specified for the Graduate<br />
Diploma in Management Systems.<br />
For progression from the Graduate Diploma in Management<br />
Systems to the third year <strong>of</strong> the Master <strong>of</strong> Business course,<br />
students would normally be expected to have attained an<br />
average <strong>of</strong> at least credit throughout their Graduate Diploma<br />
in Management Systems studies.<br />
Students with honours degrees in business or computer<br />
science may be granted advanced standing by exemption<br />
from appropriate subjects. Provision is also made for transfer<br />
<strong>of</strong> subject credits to, and from, other cooperating institutions<br />
in Melbourne for approved equivalent course content.<br />
~091 Master <strong>of</strong> Business (Organisation<br />
Behaviour)<br />
This is a four year part-time degree by coursework and minor<br />
thesis. The first two years are the same as for the Graduate<br />
Diploma in Organisation Behaviour; year three comprises a<br />
further four coursework subjects and the final year is devoted<br />
to the preparation, under supervision, <strong>of</strong> a minor thesis.<br />
The objectives <strong>of</strong> the Masters degree are:<br />
to extend the learning objectives <strong>of</strong> the graduate<br />
diploma into further domains <strong>of</strong> organisation behaviour<br />
and<br />
to develop the capacity <strong>of</strong> participants to conduct<br />
applied research into behavioural issues in organisations.<br />
Entrance requirements<br />
Entry is open to those who have satisfied to an appropriate<br />
standard the requirements <strong>of</strong> the Graduate Diploma in<br />
Organisation Behaviour (or its equivalent).<br />
Admission is determined by a selection committee and places<br />
are limited. The potential for and interest in doing applied<br />
research is an important selection criteria. Accordingly, each<br />
applicant is asked to attach to the application form a detailed<br />
curriculum vitae and a personal statement.<br />

These subjects have a generic structure and the content may<br />
vary from year to year. The general aim is to develop mastery<br />
in the research aspects <strong>of</strong> the manager's role that concern<br />
organisation behaviour.<br />

BH802 Organisation Research Project and Thesis<br />
(under supervision)<br />
Master <strong>of</strong> Business Administration<br />
(MBA)<br />
This is a general management program which meets the<br />
career needs <strong>of</strong> organisational leaders now and towards the<br />
year 2000.<br />
Participants in the program focus, on responsibility and<br />
success in a rapidly changing world, on the need to make<br />
proper use <strong>of</strong> new technologies, on the need to export, and<br />
on the skills <strong>of</strong> people management. In addition they will<br />
develop an integrated knowledge <strong>of</strong> the practical<br />
applications <strong>of</strong> the key business disciplines such as Financial<br />
Management, Economics, lnformation <strong>Technology</strong>, Marketing<br />
and Strategic Planning.<br />
