There are three broad aims <strong>of</strong> this program:<br />
to develop course participants' skills so that they will be<br />
better equipped to perform an evaluation <strong>of</strong> the<br />
dominant environmental factors which affect the<br />
markets in which different business organisations<br />
operate.<br />
0 to utilise the evaluation <strong>of</strong> the market and together with<br />
the necessary tools and knowledge develop a market<br />
model. The model will then be used to obtain<br />
appropriately based forecasts for the market parameters<br />
considered important by business or government for the<br />
short, medium and long run horizons.<br />

9 5. Admission requirements<br />
Program participants will normally be selected from those<br />
applicants who possess an undergraduate degree (or its<br />
equivalent) from a recognised university or tertiary institution.<br />

years relevant work experience subsequent to initially<br />
graduating.<br />
In addition, a limited number <strong>of</strong> places (up to ten per cent)<br />
will be made available to persons who do not hold a formal<br />

Recognition <strong>of</strong> prior learning will have a maximum credit<br />
transfer <strong>of</strong> twenty-five per cent <strong>of</strong> the course.<br />
Structure and student workload<br />
The program structure consists <strong>of</strong> enabling subjects in<br />
information technology and statistics, a division generic core<br />
subject in Research Methodology, six core subjects and one<br />
elective subject.<br />
it is anticipated that students wishing to undertake this<br />
program will have a background in information technology<br />
and statistics at the undergraduate level or through<br />
appropriate industry based training. Students who cannot<br />
demonstrate introductory knowledge in these areas will be<br />
required to undertake formal coursework.<br />
The subject in Research Methodology has been designed to<br />
meet the needs <strong>of</strong> all students proceeding to postgraduate<br />
studies. The subject aims to provide students with the basics<br />
for persuing self-directed learning.<br />
The core subjects are designed to provide students with the<br />
basic knowledge and skills necessary for developing and<br />
applying market models.<br />
The elective subjects may be chosen from a subset <strong>of</strong><br />
accredited subiects from within existing graduate diplomas at<br />
<strong>Swinburne</strong>, graduate studies from othereducational<br />
institutions or a~~ro~riate in dust^ based structured<br />
education and t'raini'ng. In generai, it will be expected that<br />
program participants will choose subjects from within existing<br />
Division <strong>of</strong> Business, Humanities and Social Science graduate<br />
diplomas.<br />

Fees<br />
The Graduate Diploma in Market Modelling is a full-fee<br />
paying course.<br />
~085 Graduate Diploma in Organisation<br />
Behaviour<br />
This course is for managers who wish to extend their<br />
knowledge <strong>of</strong> human behaviour within organisations. Most<br />
students in this course aspire to, or occupy middle and senior<br />
management positions in large or small organisations.<br />
The objective <strong>of</strong> the course is to give candidates:<br />
a knowledge <strong>of</strong> the human factors that affect the task <strong>of</strong><br />
management, together with a study <strong>of</strong> available<br />
methods for an analysis <strong>of</strong> these factors;<br />
an opportunity to examine and to practise problemsolving<br />
and decision-making when handling people in the<br />
organisational context;<br />
a broadened outlook beyond their immediate area <strong>of</strong><br />
specialisation.<br />
Course structure<br />
The program is an intensive two year, part-time course. The<br />
subjects (all <strong>of</strong> which are compulsory) are listed below. The<br />
first year introduces candidates to the areas <strong>of</strong> psychology<br />
and interpersonal skills, together with a study <strong>of</strong> organisation<br />
theory.<br />
The second year deals with organisation culture, change, and<br />
leadership. These aspects are examined and applied in the<br />
overall pattern <strong>of</strong> organisational strategy.<br />
Because <strong>of</strong> the integrated nature <strong>of</strong> the course, students are<br />
required to complete all their first year studies before<br />
attempting second year.
