The following services are available to all students and staff:<br />

Learning and Educational Development<br />

Learninq and Educational Development Services comprises a<br />

range <strong>of</strong> academic support activities to enhance learning and<br />

teaching experiences <strong>of</strong> students and staff. Services are<br />

provided within an educational psychology framework and<br />

educational research supports the broad range <strong>of</strong> consultancy<br />

and programs.<br />

Services for students include:<br />

learning enhancement programs within academic<br />

courses; .<br />

learning skill development workshops;<br />

individual learning counselling and programs;<br />

psycho-educational assessment;<br />

tertiary transition and learning workshops;<br />

tutor training.<br />

Services for staff include:<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional development programs;<br />

teaching and learning enhancement seminars;<br />

educational research and grant submission advice;<br />

consultancy services for course evaluation and<br />

development;<br />

individual counselling re TAFE and tertiary teaching;<br />

teaching induction programs.<br />

Career Planning and Industry Liaison<br />

The Careers function <strong>of</strong>fers a range <strong>of</strong> services to assist with<br />

choice <strong>of</strong> a career, assess interests and abilities, investigate<br />

employment options, improve job hunting skills, and<br />

establishing contact with potential employers.<br />

Services for students include:<br />

career counselling;<br />

resume writing;<br />

employment interview preparation;<br />

careers/employment information and resources;<br />

vocational assessment.<br />

Services for staff/community include:<br />

course information;<br />

schools liaison;<br />

career development workshops;<br />

resource development for careers practitioners;<br />

individual consultations.<br />

Counselling Sewices<br />

The Counselling service is available to current students and their<br />

families, staff and students who graduated twelve months ago.<br />

Most services are free and confidential. The services <strong>of</strong>fered to<br />

the <strong>University</strong> community inlcude individual counselling which<br />

opreates on both a fixed appointment and drop-in basis, group<br />

programs, consultancy, pr<strong>of</strong>essional supervision and continuing<br />

education programs.<br />

The Counsellors, who are registered psychologists, help in areas<br />

such as adjustment to life at <strong>Swinburne</strong>, loneliness, personal<br />

problems, academic difficulties and procedures, relationship<br />

difficulties, family concerns and sexuality issues. A specialist<br />

international student counsellor is also on staff to assist<br />

international and NESB students at the <strong>University</strong>.<br />

The Counselling Service endeavours to develop and support<br />

procedureswhich will improve the general welfare <strong>of</strong> students<br />

and enhance their education at <strong>Swinburne</strong>.<br />

The opening hours <strong>of</strong> the Service are:<br />

Monday, Tuesday and Friday<br />

9.00am-5.00pm<br />

Wednesday and Thursday<br />

9.00am-6.00pm<br />

Housing, Part-time Employment<br />

and Finance<br />

The Housing Service provides information and independent<br />

advice on all aspects <strong>of</strong> housing including tenant rights. Listings<br />

<strong>of</strong> Hostels, private board, shared and self-contained rental<br />

accommodation are also available.<br />

Notices for part-time employment are advertised for students as<br />

well as information on aH aspects <strong>of</strong> employee rights and<br />

responsiblities.<br />

The service also provides a tutor register for students requiring<br />

tutoring or who are interested in becoming tutors.<br />

Financial Advice and Student Loans<br />

Health<br />

This is a confidential nursing and medical service covering:<br />

The majority <strong>of</strong> services listed below at the Hawthorn campus<br />

are also available at the Mooroolbark campus and the Prahran<br />

campus. <strong>Swinburne</strong> students can use services at any campus.<br />
