S<strong>of</strong>tware Practice 1 Competition Prize<br />

The amount <strong>of</strong> $100. All students in the subject 50103<br />

S<strong>of</strong>tware Practice 1 are invited to participate in a programming<br />

contest in semester two. Students work in teams (generally <strong>of</strong><br />

two people) at developing a solution to a programming<br />

problem. The winning team is that whose program performs<br />

optimally according to predetermined criterion.<br />

Entries are sought as part <strong>of</strong> the SQ103 program in second<br />

semester.<br />

Advanced Structural Methods<br />

Undergraduate S<strong>of</strong>tware Engineering Award<br />

The amount <strong>of</strong> $300 will be awarded to the most outstanding<br />

Computer Science and S<strong>of</strong>tware Engineering graduate.<br />

Australian Business Consultants<br />

Undergraduate S<strong>of</strong>tware Engineering Award<br />

The award is based on assessment <strong>of</strong> undergrduate students'<br />

s<strong>of</strong>tware engineering capabilities.<br />

Australian Business Consultants<br />

Postgraduate Award<br />

The award is based on assessment <strong>of</strong> postgraduate students'<br />

s<strong>of</strong>tware engineering capabilities.<br />

Hewlett-Packard Australia Limited Prize<br />

The amount <strong>of</strong> $200 will be awarded to a final year student on<br />

the basis <strong>of</strong> overall results in computing.<br />

Hitachi Data Systems Quality Award<br />

The amount <strong>of</strong> $300 will be awarded to a final year student on<br />

the basis <strong>of</strong> the best s<strong>of</strong>tware quality performance in the final<br />

year project.<br />

Darren Golden Memorial Prize<br />

A cash prize from the Darren Golden Memorial Trust is<br />

awarded to the most outstanding student in the final two<br />

years <strong>of</strong> the Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Information <strong>Technology</strong>. The award is<br />

based primarily on academic merit but extra-curricular<br />

performance in areas such as leadership and contribution to<br />

course activities will be taken into account.<br />

School <strong>of</strong> Mathematical Sciences<br />

Graduate Research Scholarship<br />

The amount <strong>of</strong> $1 5,500 will be awarded based on academic<br />

achievement consisting <strong>of</strong> a good honours degree and work<br />

experience.<br />

The ASOR Medal (Australian Society <strong>of</strong><br />

Operations Research)<br />

Awarded to the best final year Operations Research student at<br />

the <strong>University</strong>, by the Operations Research Society <strong>of</strong> Australia<br />

on the recommendation <strong>of</strong> the School <strong>of</strong> Mathematical<br />

Sciences.<br />

School <strong>of</strong> Biophysical Sciences and<br />

Electrical Engineering<br />

Postgraduate Scholarship<br />

At least one twelve-month scholarship is normally provided for<br />

students undertaking full-time postgraduate research in an<br />

area <strong>of</strong> study relevant to the School. The value <strong>of</strong> the<br />

scholarship is determined by the Head <strong>of</strong> School. Scholarships<br />

may also be made available to international students engaged<br />

in full-time postgraduate research in an area <strong>of</strong> study relevant<br />

to the School.<br />

<strong>Swinburne</strong> Centre for Applied<br />

Neurosciences Postgraduate Scholarship<br />

One scholarship is normally provided to a student undertaking<br />

full-time postgraduate research in an area <strong>of</strong> study relevant to<br />

the Centre. The value and duration <strong>of</strong> the scholarship is<br />

determined by the Director <strong>of</strong> the Centre.<br />

Kenneth Clarke Prize<br />

Amount <strong>of</strong> $200 and plaque. The Kenneth Clarke prize is<br />

awarded to the best student in the final year <strong>of</strong> the Medical<br />

Biophysics and lnstrumentation course based on the highest<br />

weighed average marks in final year. The award is sponsored<br />

by the School in recognition <strong>of</strong> Mr Kenneth Clarke, a former<br />

long service member <strong>of</strong> the Biophysics Advisory Committee.<br />

SCAN<br />

The amount <strong>of</strong> $200 and a plaque is awarded to the best<br />

student in the final year <strong>of</strong> Psychology/Psychophysiology course<br />

based on the highest weighted average marks in final year.<br />

The award is sponsored by the <strong>Swinburne</strong> Centre for Applied<br />

Neurosciences (SCAN), a research centre within the school.<br />

lntergraph Award<br />

S<strong>of</strong>tware from lntergraph Corporation valued in excess <strong>of</strong><br />

$5000 and a plaque is awarded to the best student in the final<br />

year <strong>of</strong> Computing and lnstrumentation course based on the<br />

highest weighted average marks in final year. The award is<br />

sponsored by lntergraph Corporation, a major supporter <strong>of</strong> our<br />

industry based learning program and employer <strong>of</strong> our<br />

graduates.<br />

Industry Based Learning<br />

scholarships<br />

The Division <strong>of</strong> Science, Engineering and Design, in conjunction<br />

with industry, <strong>of</strong>fers industry based learning scholarships to the<br />

value <strong>of</strong> $8,000 per annum to full-time engineering students in<br />

second and later years <strong>of</strong> their engineering degree course.<br />

Interested students should apply to the Divisional <strong>of</strong>fice by<br />

November for the forthcoming year.<br />

W.P. Brown Medal<br />

The award is a medal and a premium <strong>of</strong> $1 50. This is awarded<br />

by the Institution <strong>of</strong> Engineers, Australia, to the best all-round<br />

student in the final year <strong>of</strong> an engineering course.
