Homebase in Harlow on the Monday so I could replace the
curtain rail in my kitchen, long ago distorted by the fire there
two years ago, and I also bought a hacksaw to help put it up –
and a toolbox for my electrical tool kit. That evening I took
down the old curtain rail and washed the curtains. The sofa
from Ikea arrived on the Thursday in three parts – the
mattress/seat, dark blue cover and frame ready to be built up.
After going to Matalan, and having a meal with Julie as usual,
first I cut and put up the new rail, then curtains, then worked
to about 3am on the sofa frame, making only one small
mistake that took ten minutes to make good. Friday I had
several arguments on the phone with Josie and Cuthbert of the
Assertive Outreach Team, but in the end they did not give me
my depot. That evening after a nice meal, and Julie had
admired the new sofa-bed – we christened it with a sheet on it
and pillows from the other sofa-bed – ‘Ladies First!’ again for
the second time of four so far of that – to remind you, her
getting on top of me and coming, then rolling over so I came
too! On Saturday we planned to go to Clacton, but when she
rang to wake me up I felt unwell, then Jackie my nurse rang
then came round and gave me my depot. We ended up not
going to the seaside, but making not one but two trips to
Matalan that afternoon, buying some nice clothes for Julie, and
returning two other outfits she had bought in Harlow, one too
big and the other frayed. My diary only records that that night
and the whole of Sunday I had to do a drastic ‘de-tox’ from the
haldol depot – using lots of coffee, beer, Pepsi Max and orange
juice – I was so very agitated!
Monday 13 th – Sunday 19 th August. This third quiet week of
three saw very little happen, according to my handwritten
diary, but it set the scene for the high drama of the bank
holiday weekend coming in two weeks’ time. On Monday I
binned a load of brown cardboard boxes cluttering up my
landing. Julie and I then took a load of electrical equipment
piled up there, that I had now replaced as it was damaged
beyond repair and/or was too old, to Hoddesdon tip, which had
an electrical recycling facility. She failed to find a ‘spiritual’
shop further down the road in Cheshunt, to put some of my
books on sale or try to, and concluded it must have shut down
since her last visit last year. Finally at Hoddesdon Argos I
