‘last train’ at 5.05pm!) I was expected to just ‘leap on a
train’ into the unknown – after all of two months
languishing in mental hospital! In the end there was a
furious row about all these phone calls, they suddenly
stopped, and I heard nothing from any member of my
family, enjoying themselves down in Sussex, with me
meanwhile stuck back here at home all alone for only
Christmas like that ever – for the next three whole days…!
6. So started the worst three days of Christmas – 25 th to 27 th
December – that I had ever known – all by myself – only
seeing just one person, Julie, for half an hour on
Thursday! I had no drink for the first two days, mostly
lived on coffee and water to drink, and my only food on
Christmas Day – was a nearly stale bap, with margarine
and nearly off slices of ham! On Boxing day I went out
and found one shop open briefly, so did buy some more
food. I got a phone call from Nursing Sister Wrecker on
Thursday afternoon asking how Christmas had been, to
which she got a rather short reply! Then she said if I
came in the next afternoon, Friday, Roberts would give me
more leave – for hopefully a half decent New Year. I duly
got the bus – but instead of more leave – it was all
cancelled – even off the Ward – for New Year and the
duration. Then it turned out that that would be for a long
time – Roberts was taking even more leave herself from
Sunday 30 th – for yet another two week holiday – in
Bermuda if you please! At that I christened her ‘Dr Billie
Holidays’ – a white doctor who took loads and loads of
spare time, in which she presumably blacked up and sang
jazz songs! So a totally and utterly miserable Christmas
was compounded by a locked up New Year to follow,
rather than making up for the Christmas I had lost by
spending that New Year with my family in Sussex, as I had
hoped and Wrecker had let me believe yesterday!
A strangely exciting New Year’s Day follows all this! My
weekend had been quiet, apart from complaining about being
confined to the ward after lots of leave, to all and sundry; but
on the Monday I had a long chat with Dr Matt Angell about
medication, and he readily agreed to change my haldol depot
back again to 400mg amisulpride twice a day. There was no
