books came out last year – and I don’t have ISBN numbers for
them (the unique barcode numbers on the back cover of a
book). After spending about £20 of my £285 left after the
refund from Substance Books on Friday, I only have £265 in my
Paypal account of any money at all – and ISBN’s usually cost
quite a lot in the past! Also £198 of that I have to keep back
for Book Promotion ltd up front payment! The last time I had
ordered ISBN numbers from www.lulu.com was about three
years earlier. I called up the site on my web browser on my
PC, and discovered that the ‘basic distribution package’ I had
paid, as I remembered, $49.95 for each of five books, had been
replaced by two different options. Firstly, a ‘self publish’ one
which bought you TEN ISBN numbers for about $130, with a
further $27 to impose them on each book after the first one.
Far too much money for my as ever tight as Tarzan’s loincloth
budget! If that was not enough, there were book layout
requirements that not all my books met, especially the
hardback version of my poetry book.
However, a quick glance down the ‘published by lulu’ check list,
currently astonishingly being offered entirely free not at
$99.95, which I was later told was the normal price, seemed to
