Another SUMMARY of where things stand – Wednesday
10 th June 2009 – in most important respects in my
private life
1. Book publishing efforts continue as usual – websites.
Book Promotion Ltd first got substantial visitors to
www.silee.me.uk (aka www.author.me.uk ) on 10 th
November 2008, and this went for 2,000 visitors in
November and 1,000 in December, then 600 in January and
February, and onwards. I was initially very heartened by
three book sales in December, and three in January.
So heartened in fact was I, that I tried to stop paying USA
Tax on the then likely further sales I predicted, by applying
for a USA Internal Revenue Service ITIN Number for that
reason. However, that process has resulted in two rejections
months later of forms I sent, by the ITIN department at
Austin, Texas. I spent £15 on two long international phone
calls to them, before discovering in a third call that the best
way to finally secure this ITIN Number, was via the US
embassy in London. That proved easy – they returned my
passport having ‘notarized’ it special delivery – and assured
me I should hear from the ITIN department in Austin, Texas,
with my ITIN number ‘within 12 weeks’ that is in July now.
However in the meantime my original driving licence never
reached the ITIN department, so to replace it as lost in the
post has cost me a further £20, and I understand from a
woman I spoke to at the ITIN department that only my
passport would have done – which was too valuable to send.
To summarise – I have done a nearly zero budget launch of
www.silee.me.uk costing £198 to Book Promotion ltd and
under £100 other expenses. However I have spent more
than the resulting proceeds from just six books, on the ITIN
number I would have needed had there been more sales – to
avoid paying 30% US tax ‘withholding’. In particular, while
trying to get this ITIN number – it has cost £20 to replace
my driving licence which got lost in the post on the way to
the ITIN department in Austin, Texas.
The very recent launch just weeks ago of my second website
www.maam.org.uk (aka www.simonlee.me.uk ) really was
