Monday 22 nd September – Sunday 28 th September 2008.
The next two weeks were quite quiet for me, with steady and
excellent progress with my book promotion, especially in the
second week. However, in the meantime Julie, my ex-girlfriend
and neighbour, now just a friend, had quite a few very serious
problems that I had to help her to deal with. On the Monday I
made some business phone calls then emailed www.lulu.com
about six books that had arrived substandard – two copies of
‘Scientific Proof…’; two copies of the ‘New Gold Dawn’ version of
that book; and two copies of ‘Doctor Police!’ However once
that complaint reached their print department, there has been
a long silence, followed by a firm denial on Friday 3 rd October
that the problems are their fault! As I write on Monday 6 th
October, this problem, worth some £60 in faulty books, does
not look like resulting easily in replacement books… Then when
I rang Julie that Monday afternoon, 22 nd September – she had
the first of several emergencies these last two weeks – her
client had been taken to hospital by ambulance with a chest
infection, having initially refused all treatment!
On the Tuesday, Manuela, the MD of www.bookpromotion.com,
emailed to say that my review, press release,
interview etc, would now be ready by next Wednesday 1 st
October not this Friday as originally planned. I spoke to Julie
by phone at length that evening, then for a change, under the
circumstances she called me. ‘My client is not at all well and
has been transferred to Hammersmith Hospital in London’! She
seemed to blame herself for not overriding her client and
getting a Doctor in at the weekend any earlier, but I reassured
Julie that it was not her fault.
She came back home the next day, Wednesday. Meanwhile I
had a series of emails to and fro with Kumar, with the
upshots:-
1. They would charge £80 for an extra ‘book covers’ page
2. It sounded like doing a ‘blog’ would be complex and
expensive, so I cancelled that notion.
Then it all went quiet from Thursday to Sunday. I treated Julie
to pizza and wine on the Thursday. On Friday, earlier than
expected by far, I got a photo holder in the post with my
