noted rather puzzled and worried, that whereas my emails to
four previous journals including ‘Sophia’ had resulted in
immediate responses – there had been nothing from the nine
journals I emailed on Wednesday nor from John Polkinghorne’s
representative last night. Over the next 24 hours I worried that
none of my emails had got through for some reason!
So Saturday I re-sent all eleven of this week’s emails that had
not received replies since Monday – using a different email host
address to send them. I bought some bits for a curry supper in
quite a hurry, and cooked a curry for Julie and I, before she
drove us to Harlow to watch the new film ‘Atonement’ – which I
found so moody and depressing, in my own such state, that I
was outside the cinema smoking and going to the toilet during
the only real action of this slow film! She stayed overnight for
the whole night back home, for the first time that night.
Sunday she treated me to a return meal of a chicken roast with
her daughter at her place, and then we went for a walk with
Hayden the baby in his pushchair. We both felt tired but back
at my flat that afternoon on the bed – something else overtook
us, after which we no longer felt at all tired, either of us… She
went home about 10pm after cheese and biscuits and listening
to music, and it is now 10.35, I have turned on the computer
and found three very encouraging received emails – the famous
Ian Ramsey Institute had passed my article on to two top
directors no less; and the representative of John Polkinghorne
said his practice was to review books and articles on John’s
behalf.
I had sent both my book and the very long article mostly
abstracted from Part IV of the book, with Appendix I of the
book also added on as an appendix; he will review both, for the
results of which I wait with bated breath. The only ‘no’ of the
three email replies came from the ‘Faraday Institute’ of St.
Edmund’s College at Cambridge – they explained they do not
accept unsolicited papers. Not bad for a Sunday of all days –
and very reassuring after my worries about lack of replies of
the last four days!
