every night. A total of 120mg a fortnight, very close to<br />

what I was ask<strong>in</strong>g for now!<br />

Roberts also said she was rais<strong>in</strong>g my lithium from <strong>the</strong> full<br />

maximum dose of 1200mg at night, start<strong>in</strong>g <strong>with</strong> 1600mg from<br />

that night.<br />

The first of several irrational random decisions by her dur<strong>in</strong>g<br />

this Section 3! I told her I would negotiate <strong>the</strong> dose of depot<br />

<strong>with</strong> <strong>the</strong> nurse giv<strong>in</strong>g it <strong>in</strong> two days’ time, on Friday, which was<br />

totally aga<strong>in</strong>st <strong>the</strong>ir rules. She just ignored me, so I f<strong>in</strong>ished<br />

<strong>the</strong> ward round on that note. I had my first fresh air s<strong>in</strong>ce<br />

Friday <strong>in</strong> a ten m<strong>in</strong>ute walk that <strong>after</strong>noon. The follow<strong>in</strong>g day,<br />

Terence my new CPN fetched some books and my post and my<br />

vital backup CD from home, of my computer. I tried it on <strong>the</strong><br />

two brand new computers <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> quiet room, as supplied by <strong>the</strong><br />

local branch of MIND. These had at last been supplied but still<br />

not been connected to <strong>the</strong> Internet. There was some <strong>in</strong>k <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

pr<strong>in</strong>ter, however, which I soon got work<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

That <strong>after</strong>noon Terry, my named nurse, took me for a 20<br />

m<strong>in</strong>ute walk on which I shouted a lot, <strong>the</strong>n when I discovered<br />

he was actually giv<strong>in</strong>g me my depot <strong>the</strong> <strong>next</strong> morn<strong>in</strong>g, <strong>in</strong>stantly<br />

calmed down, and soon persuaded him to give me 130mg not<br />

150mg – which he duly carried out <strong>the</strong> <strong>next</strong> morn<strong>in</strong>g. Result as<br />

expected – virtually zero toxic effects <strong>the</strong>n, all weekend, and so<br />

on <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> week <strong>after</strong>! My reason<strong>in</strong>g ignored <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> ward had<br />

been proved right only by a friendly understand<strong>in</strong>g nurse<br />

break<strong>in</strong>g all <strong>the</strong> rules! I found on my disk an old patent<br />

application from exactly two years ago, got <strong>the</strong> phone number<br />

of <strong>the</strong> IPO (Intellectual Property Office) off <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>ternet which<br />

had just been <strong>in</strong>stalled that day on <strong>the</strong> Quiet Room computers,<br />

and had a chat <strong>with</strong> <strong>the</strong>m. They told me firstly that my old<br />

patent application had been cancelled – and <strong>the</strong>y would send<br />

<strong>the</strong> right form to submit it <strong>in</strong>stead for £60 for a Registered<br />

Design – which this person on <strong>the</strong> phone thought <strong>more</strong><br />

appropriate! I had been told by <strong>the</strong> Social Fund to expect a<br />

deposit of £1160 <strong>in</strong> my bank account on <strong>the</strong> follow<strong>in</strong>g<br />

Wednesday, so turned my patent application off my CD backup<br />

<strong>in</strong>to a Registered Design format <strong>in</strong>stead, and when <strong>the</strong> form<br />

arrived along <strong>with</strong> <strong>the</strong> £1160 AND £250.60 DLA <strong>the</strong> <strong>next</strong><br />
