medic she was best advised to take maths, chemistry and
biology, and they concluded she should take the awful mix of
English, business studies and biology and chemistry at AS level!
I saw Julie that evening, who could have come to the
funeral after all that – as when she got to the training session
at 9.15 that morning for her caring job, it had all been
cancelled without her being warned! That might explain why
she has been in a bad mood sometimes later this week!
For when I anxiously rang my father on the Tuesday
afternoon my sister answered, and after saying that they had
both been up half the night – tore me to shreds with the
remark ‘Mum lost her life trying to help you!!!’ which I
demanded she retract as totally untrue – then I slammed the
phone down on her. Julie compounded this inside two hours
with two vicious remarks, which continue to leave me with
serious doubts about our relationship. First she said ‘you are
randy (sic!) whereas I am passionate i.e. loving’. Then inside
one minute she had made me really very angry indeed to the
point I stormed home, for she casually asked ‘did you have a
fling while you were away?’ At Mum’s funeral, Julie?
The week has generally continued quietly, with my Nurse
Jackie consoling me on Wednesday for these two vicious sets of
remarks on Tuesday. Julie at least apologised on Thursday,
giving me a ‘sorry for what I said’ card. The total lack of
sympathetic sympathy cards or even just sympathetic phone
calls from family and friends was deafening by its sensation of
cold silence, which has continued until today, Sunday 9 th
September. Yesterday as I said Julie and I got pumps and
locks for our two bikes from our local bike shop, not Halfords,
and gave them a test ride in the evening after separate suppers
in our two flats, revealing that they basically work, apart from
the saddles being loose.
Sunday 9 th September 2007. An incredibly quiet day,
perhaps the quietest of the year, to end the quietest week of
the year apart from the funeral. Bought and ate a king prawn
salad for supper – in between phoning my daughter to confirm
Monday’s chats – she is taking biology, chemistry, English and
business studies – rather than maths as her papers were not
the harder ones needed to take A Level with just a B grade –
and aiming to take a degree in law or business, not medicine as
she originally hoped. No news of Julie all day – and I do not
