completely outweighed my small list of slight misgivings with
this ‘published by lulu’ option: -
1. It did cost some money – you had to buy a proof copy of
each book to approve. Then six weeks after you approved
it, Lulu will have checked it and issued it to book shops
and other retailers on the Internet, and book catalogues.
My Career History counts as a brochure, not a book, so is
not eligible. The present book will only be finished once
the book launch finally takes place, as the sort of hopefully
very positive ‘happy ending’ I have long sought for this set
of books. That is easy – I will not order and approve the
proof till then. That left seven books I needed to order
proofs of, because I decided that being free, having the
ever bigger and more well known Lulu behind them, with
all that ‘published by lulu’ supplies in distribution, made it
worthwhile having all the eight actual books, but not the
brochure, ‘published by Lulu’.
2. Once approved, it would cost a lot to change the books in
any way because they will have been ‘cast in stone’ at the
printers. However, apart from recent (final?) small
changes to both versions of ‘Scientific Proof that (God The
Holy) Spirit Exists’, I was happy with that, for none of the
other books had needed any revisions in a whole year.
So I went ahead and went through the motions, and first
selected ‘published by lulu’ for all eight actual books, but as I
said, not the brochure CV. I immediately was confronted with
eight prompts to order proof copies. Without thinking to double
check the check list for this, I ordered them – some £50!
Imagine my horror when I called up my email inbox – to find
eight identical email messages all saying ‘make sure you have
the ISBN number for ‘published by lulu’ inserted on the
copyright page of your book before ordering the proof’!
I immediately got back to the web browser and
www.lulu.com/uk and their ‘chat help line’. Having explained
this problem with poor prompting by their web site, I asked
