Tuesday 24 th February that helped me progress this by an
unlikely, indirect route!
‘SEO’ (Search Engine Optimisation) – a total re-launch,
getting my web site actually visible to interested visitors!
I had obviously come across this term, and vaguely knew it was
to do with choice of keywords for web sites (the words and
phrases each site supplies to summarise what it is about – of
most use to search engines and people using them). However
in these last three weeks I have come to find out a lot more
about it – and burned my fingers a bit, almost as badly it might
have turned out, as with my mobile contract, once I answered
an email from a leading UK SEO company, having seen that
their website promised to do SEO ‘at very reasonable prices’.
After that I got ‘inundated with phone calls and emails for the
next few days’ as I finally put them off in an email. Besides,
‘your services are so expensive. That is why according to your
own terms and conditions you can only deal with businesses
like yourself’. I just escaped getting embroiled in a very
expensive contract after their very camp sounding salesman
phoned for the umpteenth time that Friday morning, and
actually woke me up so I was in a befuddled state; with an
‘offer I could not refuse’ and indeed parted with a large deposit
till I soon cancelled everything as above. After a terse reply
from the technician I had received a ten minute phone call
from, I soon got ‘googling’ instead, after chatting to him, when
really he pumped for keywords, not them doing it even. I soon
started ‘googling’ – initially for ‘free SEO’ then ‘free SEO
software’ – after the first search yielded one unbelievably
simple piece of free advice as follows about what SEO really
involved. Despite all the claims of the above company to say
there were 280 techniques to it and they would use all 280 on
my website! This simple advice was that the crux of SEO is to:
