On Thursday Julie finished a three day training course with her
new employer-to-be, a dubious it soon turned out, private care
company, as a Care Worker, and arrived at my flat at 3.10pm.
We went shopping for ink in Harlow, but PC World were out of
stock of the Epson cartridges I needed, so it was a wild goose
chase. My father’s money had arrived – but I could not buy the
ink I needed to print out eight copies of my papers – for which I
needed 8 black cartridges – one per paper.
However, having asked advice with Jane, a nursing assistant at
the AOT, Julie took me to Harlow on Friday, and I bought the
eight cartridges, apparently scarce because Epson were
changing the packaging, at two different shops. We also
bought a simply horrible pizza at Tesco in Harlow, and I printed
off the eight papers that night. I also secured a £15.90 refund
from the Internet ink company for the two black cartridges that
they failed to supply on Tuesday as promised – to be in my
bank account next week.
I printed off two more papers on Saturday intending to send
one to Zygon Journal, two to the International Journal of
Philosophy of Religion, and four to national newspapers.
However there had been the latest and longest of a series of
national postal strikes since Thursday, going on till Tuesday, so
I was not to post these papers, the three to the USA costing a
fortune, till Tuesday evening, with the strike due to end the
next day.
Sunday was quiet – Julie cooked Sunday lunch of roast chicken
as so often happened, and I napped in the afternoon. I
remember feeling very depressed!
Monday 8 th October – Sunday 14 th October 2007. Monday
started innocently enough and ended in a financial panic of a
sort that I had never experienced before, that was to last till
the week that I type this, on Monday 17 th December, on an
alien computer in a very alien place – miles from home. We
come to that in due course in the next dramatic Part of this
