Finally “You have refused the full 1800mg of lithium for the last
two days! If you don’t take the full dose from now on, I will
have to put the depot back up from 130mg to 150mg every two
weeks!” so obviously I immediately swore blind I would take
the full dose. Then I asked for ten days’ home leave until my
Appeal, which stubborn Roberts totally refused to contemplate
at first, until first my father made quite a long but very calm
speech saying it could no harm, and my CPN Terence clinched
the deal by suggesting a review this Friday back at the ward, to
be followed by a full week’s leave had the first three days gone
well.
Finally Roberts backed down and agreed, I packed my vital
toiletries and some clothes, and my father gave me a lift home
– on leave till at least Friday, almost certainly a further week
beyond that! I slept in that night, glad of my own bed for the
first night in months, then mid afternoon whom did I see out of
the window carrying shopping home from Tesco – but Julie!
A shiver literally ran through me, for I thought, “I can’t officially
speak to that woman who was last year my lover – but I have
to – for Dr Roberts has advised me to sell my car – and I think
Julie has the car file!” I did not have Julie’s phone number, of
course, so there was a flurry of notes about the car file, which
we eventually guessed had been stolen from my car where Julie
had somewhat carelessly left it! Finally I left a note “leaving all
these notes is silly and not adult – please please telephone
me!” and indeed she called - for ten minutes – at 8.30pm!
Finally she even let me into her flat reluctantly for half an hour,
where we discussed everything. She had just yesterday got
home from a second three week stint of work, and was going
back for three weeks next Wednesday – but her employers
would not let her say where to me!
I got the bus at 10.20am the next day, had a quick review, and
Roberts was surprised at my quick renewed contact with Julie,
but let me have the week’s leave. I got back at 5pm, and after
supper popped round to see Julie – who readily agreed to take
