I sent several emails in reply, but when I telephoned on the
Wednesday, the next day, international call of course, she had
not read them, and said my ‘spiritual book’ was not their
normal sort of ‘spiritual’ – which was Californian!
Meanwhile I went to the Mind Club on the Tuesday night, full of
anticipation as well as tension about the above. When I got
home again, I proceeded to look up email addresses for all
relevant BRITISH agents I could find on the web site of the
Writers’ and Artists’ Yearbook – and emailed the ones I knew
were relevant. Again I included in the email the press release,
synopsis and the same Article Seven. I got emails through to
all of 47 UK agents – on top of 60+ USA agents previously.
Now I was really trawling in deep seas! All it would take was
one of these 107 to like my book!
Tuesday I was up till late at night very anxious about all this,
and woke up so late on the Wednesday that I missed the Mind
Club. There were all of eleven email ‘NO’s’ from UK agents that
afternoon on my PC! I also phoned the US and Jessica in New
York as above, but got nowhere. I paid £2.65 for a month’s
subscription to the UK agent and publisher database at
www.firstwriter.com which resulted in sending copies of earlier
emails to agents to seven agents and 15 publishers (all mostly
in the USA – but some UK). However of these only two
publishers replied to say they were not appropriate by the
Friday – so I cancelled my subscription to this particular web
site www.firstwriter.com.
On Thursday at last, Jeni got her A Level Results, of BBB, which
she was told by the Examiners could easily have been AAA if
she had done better in the previous year, her first year in the
Sixth Form. Still – her results were enough to get her into Uni
– Queen Mary’s College, London, no less to take zoology,
