was very unlikely – so could I have a refund? Also, quite
cheekily, I pointed out that their web site stated quite clearly,
that while the ‘published by lulu’ option was free, there would
be a refund of the ‘basic distribution package, as on all of five
of my books, at the checkout – but there had been no refunds,
in fact! After many delays, breaks in communication over the
chat line, and apparently much discussion at her end – the
operator merely gave me a ticket number and said their
‘distribution’ department would be in touch. They were to
email me the next day, offer huge apologies – but no actual
refunds - just what I had expected!
Going back to last Sunday, I then went through four hours’
unexpected work, half an hour per book, adding the wretched
ISBN number to each copyright page; and also a blank sheet at
the end of the books, another small requirement; and
publishing them on Lulu, rejecting the proofs already, even
though they had yet to be sent – faulty! I now lacked the
money to buy the full set of proofs, having bought a faulty set,
and still needed to pay www.book-promotion.com the first £198
instalment. I remembered they had a ‘pay now’ button on their
website, so paid them by Paypal. Then I went back to Lulu and
ordered as many proofs as I could for the small amount of
money I had left. After ordering proofs of both versions of
‘Scientific Proof that (God The Holy) Spirit Exists’ and my
paperback of my poetry, my Paypal balance was a princely
$1.02! It was 10pm, and I had been busy since calling Peter at
1pm, and was finally, so I thought, able to email Manuela with
the vital book covers, all now with ISBN numbers. These I now
downloaded and gave my own title, with a sequence number at
the start for my desired order, from my lulu page.
They were large files, so I split them into two emails, also
discussing the Hallowe’en target date for launch in the first
email. The first email, however, caused repeated timeouts,
after trying about five times, after about fifteen minutes – five
megabytes or so – of sending. I eventually called 150 and
Virgin Media’s fault line there at the ungodly time of 2am on
Monday morning, only for the technician: -
