Friday and Saturday have been very quiet indeed. On Friday I
just saw Jemima and the Doctor briefly, who urged me to try
again with the DVLA to reapply for a driving licence. Indeed it
turned out the advice I was given last month on the phone was
wrong. Now I am being sent a set of application and medical
forms. Then the DVLA will contact my GP and psychiatrist, and
might just in their infinite wisdom and above all absolute
powers of discretion, actually restore my driving licence. I
cannot afford a car right now, but who knows what might
happen in a couple of weeks when my press release hits the
desks or PCs of 14,000 publications worldwide? That evening I
had a glass of rose wine with Julie – who is very house-proud
about her new carpet – and insisted that I walk on it without
my shoes on!
Today Saturday has been so quiet! I got paid in the morning
and did a large Tesco supermarket shop – securing lots of
‘bargains’ – which obviously pleased me! I rang Julie and she
had good news at last – she had had a phone call to say she
has an interview with her nursing home on Monday 20 th
October! Finally more good news – an email from Kumar at
Book Promotion ltd agreeing everything and saying that the
web site was ‘in schedule’!
Sunday started quiet and boring, so I went round to see Julie –
and we were both glad I did – for soon I was rolling white
emulsion paint on her kitchen ceiling while she painted the
coving white too. She said she was desperate for help, so very
glad of mine, in sorting out her flat now that the new carpet
made it look like a new place since Thursday! After the
decorating we got an hour of fresh air and took a walk round
the local water meadows or ‘King’s meads’. However, over a
glass of rose wine at my flat, when I tried to snog her like on
Tuesday, she said huffily, ‘Please do not kiss me – we are not in
a relationship!’
Monday was even quieter than Sunday – we loaded up her car
and visited the local rubbish tip and recycled a load of stuff of
hers – and my printer and vacuum cleaner. I sent Kumar an
email asking him to actually phone me tomorrow to discuss
progress on the web site and advertising. Then there was the
