I am ‘back to normal finances’ until the next unexpected
windfall, for Mum will have left a will and as her her eldest son I
can expect something decent from it, particularly if she had
time to revise it to include the proceeds of selling up the house
in Hatfield for a smaller one in Sussex. Top priority is to carpet
Julie’s flat – and to replace my cigarette burn coated one to
complete the flat renovation since July – with carpets on special
offer from a remarkably budget priced company I have found
advertised in the local paper. After that is seeing Julie OK until
she is fully established on a decent salary in her new job – not
just £10 a week after paying the bills! While denting my two
remaining £2300 Barclaycard and £1500 Citi card debts, both
on repayment arrangements at present, the former 6%
interest, the latter interest free. Mum was by no means rich,
but a poor pensioner. Only if there is a pot in the will from the
sale of their house at Hatfield just three weeks before her
passing away, can I possibly hope to achieve the above
priorities, then even possibly buy and run a car and drive again
for the first time since 1999… There is even another possibility
of a windfall beyond that last one, which only appeared at all,
last week. If ‘Sophia’ run my set of articles, will I at last get a
publisher for the whole book – or much more lucrative at all of
£5+ royalties a copy, use that advertising to launch it myself
from my web site???
It is nearly 3am on Friday morning 31 st August 2007 – a
week less two hours since Mum died. As it happens, my flat is
virtually immaculate just before I go to her funeral on Monday.
All I have to do tomorrow is iron three light coloured shirts to
take, and pack an overnight bag with them, my suit, black tie
and black shoes I bought partly with this strong possibility in
mind for £14 in Matalan, three weeks or so ago; and vacuum
the floor. Then on Saturday two mountain bikes that we
spotted (identical; unisex; mauve; dual suspension 18 gear but
only £70 each!) last Friday on the Web on www.tesco.com are
due to be delivered here, so after buying two padlocks we can
christen them, assuming the weather is adequate for a cycle
ride! I am not too tired yet and plan to spend another half hour
or so cutting out the pictures currently three to an A4 sheet
that I printed out – and putting them in a ‘Julie (and Simon)
photo album’. Apart from seeing Jackie tomorrow and fending
off any paranoia about my not taking my injection for yet
