which only on that Sunday 15 th March, my GENUINE AVG
package told me was a ‘fake anti-spyware package’ – that had
meanwhile terrified me by lying that my machine had been
invaded by viruses, spyware, Trojan Horses and worms – and
was in a critical state! I did not really believe this but got
stopped from changing from a page demanding $99.95 off a
credit card - £73+! At 2am I was not thinking clearly enough
to turn off my machine and get rid of this invader – and was
panicked into paying out the money – when it pretended to ‘fix’
all the viruses etc the package claimed were there! I rang
Virgin credit cards today, Monday, but they refused any refund
– saying I had been ‘sold’ something – even though it was all a
big scam!
Now to boost the visitor count dramatically by adding links from
other sites? I researched the subject of these ‘links’ or
‘backlinks’ as links to one’s site are often called, by googling for
‘free cheap website links’. Apparently Google had been the
ones, years ago, to first make such links even more important
than keywords. Links to your site from others, especially sites
with lots of links to them, are supposed, in some ‘black art’
way, to be a measure of your web site’s esteem by others!
This is quantified in the Page Rank (0-30, with 0 meaning “does
not have any significant links to it” and 30 being impossibly
high a ‘PR Index’ as it is called. PR 3 and PR 4 are enough to
get a site to the top of search engine listings, apparently! My
site is PR 1 at present, so I am told, so there is work to do!)
Reciprocal links (site ‘A’ links to site ‘B’ links back to site ‘A’)
are common but nowhere near as important to search engines
as ‘one way links’ which as their name suggests only go from
one site to yours, and you do not have to link back. There is a
whole marketplace in ‘free and cheap website links’ and as I
was totally broke at present I googled for ‘free one way website
links’ and found three not one, websites which I used, the first
two using the same automatic technique: -
