IN the case of any repair to the car, or
the changing of tires, where it is necessary
that the machine be raised from the
ground, difficulty sometimes is found in
placing the jack so that it will not sink
into the soft earth. This condition
usually obtains on bad roads.

A combination auto shovel and jack

SWITCH CONTROL FOR AUTO
SPOTLIGHT
T H E accompanying drawing shows an
automobile spotlight with a particularly
ingenious method of controlling the
current to the lamp. Heretofore, it has
been necessary to control the lighting of
this lamp either by means of a switch on
the dash, which is somewhat inconvenient,
or else by means of a loose plug
extending from the lamp, which is not a
very reliable or durable
switch used, similar to that which has
been used in tool handles, as well as in
handles of electric vibrators and vacuum
cleaners. This method of operation
makes it easy for the same hand that
moves the lamp in the various directions
to control the current of the lamp simply
by pushing the button. When the light
button is pushed the current is "on"—
there is light; and when the dark button is
pushed the current is "off". The switch,
sometimes called a tool-handle switch, is
placed inside the small neck of the lamp
similar to method shown on the attached
sketch.
