For the last two years,
the word "sports" has
come to be quite an important
one in the style
world. Some years ago
one might say, "I'll just
put on a sweater and go
out and play some golf",
and still be in style.
But this is a thing of the
past. Now the sports
idea in dresses, coats,
waists, hats, is assuming
alarming proportions.

sign over a waist or coat as a "sports"
one, it doubles its selling value immediately,
and this year nothing is too expensive,
provided it fits in with the sports
idea. Sports clothes are now "elaborate
simplicity" itself, and are made of the
most beautiful materials imaginable, and
usually of striking color combinations,
and they must fairly shriek with style.
The sports idea is also making the
bathing suit a wonderfully
c o m p 1 icated
mechanism.

Naturally, Paris hats have a touch of
the military about them.
In gloves a new departure has been
made. The backs of some of them are
embroidered in lotus flowers, or unique
designs never used before on them.
New fancy bags instead of the old stiff
hand bags are rigid necessities, and
Paris of course puts out some "different"
designs.
It is a painful thing to
mention "the scarcity of
leather" problem, and it
is still more painful to
think that the shoes are
going not only higher in
price, but also in height,
even for summer. Not
even the low shoe will be
low any more for some
shoe designers, for it has
been raised in height a
few inches, and another
strap added. The newest
designs are irresistible,
and it hardly can be imagined
that the fashionloving
woman is going
to say, "No, leather is
too scarce for me to indulge
in such beautiful shoes", so the
shoes will be sold, and more demanded.
After Paris creations are obtained,
another problem is, how are we
going to keep them in their best condition
when traveling? Paris helps out in
this respect this year and offers a new
trunk especially designed for millinery,
lingerie, and shoes. This trunk holds six
or more hats, keeping them in perfect
condition, twelve pairs
of shoes, or twentyfour
pairs of slippers,
and the tray in the top
is for lingerie.
Another distinctly
new invention for
men's clothes comes
out in the sport coat.
It is called the "Pivot"
sleeve, especially designed
for golf. The
sleeve is equipped at
the shoulder with
plaits that open and
expand to each stroke
requirement, without
the slightest suggestion
of restraint. The
