Curing the Stammer or Lisp
After years of study, Mrs. Mabel F. Gifford, vocal specialist
of the school department of Oakland, California, has
perfected a mirror, flashlight, and candle process which
enables children to correct these faults quickly. In the
smaller photograph above Mrs. Gifford is shining the flash
into a girl's mouth, and explaining, by means of the mirror,
just what is the matter. With some stammerers, she
uses a lighted candle held close to the mouth while speaking.
If the candle iis blown out, the child gets ocular
demonstration that there is something wrong.

Making Bees Work in Winter
This colony is suspended from the roof of a vegetable
greenhouse which is kept warm all the time. The chief
function of the bees in this position is to aid in the pollenization
of plants. In this house the little creatures work in
the blossoms of cucumber vines and thus perform a valuable
breeding service, and incidentally supply a small
amount of honey at the same time.
