I F she were completely shut off from

world, if even all the women were
at war, and all the factories for
clothing purposes shut down, Paris
would still find some ingenious way of
dictating the fashions to us. If she did
not do this of her own accord,
we would demand that
she do it.
While last year the United
States managed to exist without
a great deal of aid from
Paris as to new designs, this
year Paris is become again
more mindful of the opportunities
offered by American
importers and consumers, and
is showing a very conciliatory
attitude in this regard.

Again, there have been recent announcements
of the establishment of New York
branches by certain important Paris
houses, which is another indication of the
Paris dressmaker's appreciation of the
American market—women here are really
better spenders than the French.
The war is responsible for
a few changes in designs, also.
Never before have Paris
dressmakers worked so in
unison to crystallize the styles
and lines along which fashion
develops, a move which makes
the world styles very distinct.
Another change blamed to
the war is the edict against
the wearing of decollete
