THE BOLTLESS RAIL JOINT
This invention makes the joint the strongest and most unyielding part of the rail. Its two pieces so wedge and interlock
that they hold the rail ends in a viselike grip that cannot wear nor work loose.
The boltless rail joint consists of the base with a fixed side or flange, and a removable wedge-shaped side or brace.
The removable wedge-shaped side is tapered slightly from one end to the other. The base portion is made of suitable
width to receive and support properly the base flanges of railroad rails. The removable wedge-shaped side or brace is
inserted by pushing its smallest end between the base and the head of the rail. The base upon the open side of the
chair is provided with a rounded edge flange, or bead, between which and the head of the rail the removable wedgeshaped
brace is made to be slipped.

This air-cooling machine, recently brought forward by
John G. Haglock, an Illinois inventor, will drop the tem­
perature in a moderate-sized office from ninety to seventy
degrees Fahrenheit in a few minutes. The device com­
prises a semi-cylindrical water pan having cut-out portions
at each end for the passage of air-currents. A fan, with
radial plant's formed of strips of fabric stretched diagon­
ally from rods at one end of the fan frame, causes acon-
stant circulation of quantities of water in small particles in
the path of the current of air from an electric fan. The
currents of air, playing on the semi-spiral planes, cause
the drum-like fan to rotate at a rate of six or seven revo­
lutions a minute, driven by the force of the air as it leaves
the (an. In order to obtain satisfactory results in cooling
a room, the temperature of the water used should be from
three to five degrees below temperature desired.
