There Is
No Need to
Labor Knee-
Deep in Mud
plied to the tires
from the driver's
seat by the mere
pressure of a lever.
The chains are
contained in steel
cone housings. By
pulling a lever the chains are released,
and the housing comes in contact with a
flat friction ring attached to each rear
wheel. This causes the cone to rotate,
and produces a swirling motion of the
chains, which swing by centrifugal force
under the rear wheels. Another pull on
the lever withdraws the contact, stops
the motion of the chains, draws them into
and inverts the cone.
DETACHABLE GAUNTLET
GLOVE
TTIIIS detachable gauntlet glove is the
height of fashion nowadays. Formerly
it was considered proper when
motoring to look just as formidably
"roadish" as possible, and as a result
As Soon as He Desires to Leave the Car, the Motorist
May Take Off These Detachable Gauntlets. Still
Retaining His Gloves
monstrous goggles, dusters and veils
were created. Now, however, it is the
purpose of the fashionable motorist to
disguise the fact of his motoring, and to
get clothes which are practical for motor
wear, but which also are stylish and presentable
on the street.
These gloves have gauntlet attachments
which snap on to keep out the
wind when driving, but which are made
into ordinary street gloves in an instant.
KEEPING THE PUMP NOZZLE
CLEAN
A NY motorist who has had occasion
•^^ to use his foot pump while on unpaved
country
roads has probably
noticed that the
pump tubing is just
about the right
length and stiffness
to dip continually
in the sand, unless
special caution is
used.
A western motorist
has hit upon
the simple scheme
of fastening a loop
of twine to the
connecting end of
the tube. This
loop can be hung
easily and quickly
over the pump handle,
thus keeping
the nozzle from
the ground.
The Handy Loop
A rubber band also may be used in an
emergency, but will not last long, as
grease and oil soon destroy rubber.
HEAD LAMP FOR AUTO-
MOBILISTS
IF the doctor or surgeon needs a head
lamp for accurate diagnosis and work
on a patient, certainly the repairman
needs one for finding out in the easiest
way what is the matter with his car.
