T_I ERE is one little life-saver which
may assist the hurried man in getting
to breakfast on time. When you
buy a tie, put it on at once, tying it as
carefully and as artistically as you know
how. Take a lot of time to it.

Then when ready to remove the tie,
slip the knot down over the narrow end
until the collar may be unbuttoned and
taken off.
Keep on slipping the knot down so that
the loop which encircles the neck becomes
large enough to lift over the head. Be
careful to avoid slipping the knot clear
off the narrow end, as that would necessitate
re-tying it.
When you wish to don the tie, slip it
over your head, adjust it in the buttoned
collar, and tighten up the knot. This
may be done in one-tenth the time that
it took to tie the four-in-hand, and the
neckwear presents a much better appearance.
Old ties are saved from wearing
out by tying them up in this fashion.

two sections. It requires no ice or chemicals,
no cost for upkeep, collects no mold
or disagreeable odor, is as cool as the
food chamber in an ordinary ice refrigerator.
The cold within the iceless icebox
is produced by evaporation and the
warmer and drier the temperature is
without, the cooler the iceless icebox is
within. Consequently this method of
cooling by evaporation has been successful
for centuries in India, Africa, Mexico,
and in other tropical countries.
The icebox must be dipped in water
every two or three days and allowed to
remain in water for two or three minutes.
It must then be set in a place where it
will get a circulation of air, as this is the
principle of its operation. When water
and air are given it, evaporation does the
rest, and there is an end to waiting for
the ice man and cleaning up after him.
