Dr. Henry Mitchell Smith, in a paper
entitled "Indoor Humidity", read before
the Brooklyn Medical Society, says:
"The point to be emphasized is that
every time we step out of our
houses during the winter season,
we pass from an atmosphere
with a relative humidity
of about thirty per
cent into one with a relative
humidity of, on an average,
seventy per cent. Such a
sharp and violent contrast
must be productive of harm,
particularly to the delicate
mucous membranes.
For the sum of three dollars
those interested in better
living conditions can secure a
new humidifying appliance
which is inserted between the
radiator coils. The main body
of this appliance is made of
coated sheet metal, and there
is a glass container for water,
which remains in view at the side.
It is interesting to watch and time
the air bubbles as they go through
the water to the top of the glass container.
When this little device is working
on your radiators, you will mark an
appreciable diminution of the number of
"colds in the head".

THE IRON
'T'HE new signal lamp
for the electric iron is
"memory proof". It is
used not only for electric
irons, but for any electrical
device. It is a combination
of an attachment plug
and a miniature lamp socket, constructed
as a unit. The lamp is
enclosed in an electrically welded
guard, and gives a warning light as long
as the current is on. The current consumption
is so small that it does not
lessen the efficiency of the device that is
being operated.
