by actual test, as nine men with four one horse carts.

When building piers or drivingfence stakes, the Canadian
backwoodsman often has to exercise considerable engineering
ingenuity. This water-soaked birchwood block,
running in a light frame, and raised by hand power, was
found to do the work eminently satisfactorily by one
Alberta settler.
