LUXURY AND IS WILLING TO PAY BIG FOR IT
Y O U may call this twelve thousand
dollar car a traveling
fortune, the millennium in
automobiles, the height of
1 u x u r y—nevertheless, it is
easy to sell to some people.
The makers themselves acknowledge
that we can be happy without it. They
acknowledge that other cars costing half
as much are luxurious. They acknowledge
that other cars costing half as much
will go as fast. But they merely show the
automobilist the car. If he wants the
perfection that goes with this car, they
are not averse to taking his money for it.
The evolution of the car is interesting.
Four brothers are in charge of this company,
and step by step they have made
every type.of automobile pay. First, the
older brother started the little line of tiny
white automobiles that run on the sidewalks
in Lincoln Park, Chicago. The
charge is 5c for the ride through the
park, and the small engine carries behind
it four side seated little trailers.
Another brother has a system of automobiles
running on scheduled route
through San Francisco, Oakland, and
Los Angeles. Each automobile carries
fifteen to eighteen passengers, and the
service is in close competition with the
street cars, because of its reliability,
fresh air advantage, and speed.
The two other brothers, whose ideas
probably soared higher than this, are
artists, and they combining their superb
taste with the business instinct and engineering
ability of the other two have
made the perfect car.
Luxury to the nth power has been their
inspiration, and examination of this car
gives us an accurate definition of true
automobile elegance, which today is
something more than style, something
more than comfort, something more than
speed. It is more than a combination of
these three.
The engine is the Hall-Scott Aviation
Powerplant, which has excelled in every
known test for speed and endurance.
One of these motors in a recent test was
placed on a test stand and run continuously
for 64 hours at 1300 R. P. M., developing
