TRYING THEIR WINGS
The Army Aviation Camp at Ashburn, III.
A Picture Snapped at Eighty Miles
an Hour
The above photograph was taken from the
machine of Army Aviator Instructor Louis
Gertson, while it was traveling at full speed. It
shows army plane No. 260, driven by Captain
Ralph Royce. inflight dead ahead. The pic
ture shows wonderfully, how an enemy plane
appears to a flyer when an aerial battle is in
progress, and the aviators are maneuvering for
position.
Commander of the Aviators
This is Captain Christie, himself a noted air
pilot and now instructor in-chief of the bird-
men who are in training at the Ashburn camp.
Under his tutelage, the rookies are progressing
rapidly.
