2 Locate the Device Toolbar dashboard report for the selected device. On the right<br />

side of report, small icons are linked to some of the network tools.<br />

3 Click an icon to launch the network tool in the context of the selected device.<br />

Using the Ping tool<br />

The Ping tool sends out an ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol) echo request to the<br />

networked device identified in Address/Hostname.<br />

Tool results<br />

The results of this request appears after the request has been made.<br />

Destination. The address specified in Address/Hostname.<br />

Packets. The number of data packets sent, received, and lost during the device ping.<br />

RTT. Round trip time in milliseconds; the amount of time it takes for the ping request<br />

to be returned from the remote device.<br />

Status. Success or failure. If failure, a reason is stated for the failure. For example,<br />

"Failure: Request timed out."<br />

To use the Ping Tool:<br />

1 Enter or select the appropriate information in the following fields.<br />

Address/Hostname. The target of the Ping echo request. Enter the host name or IP<br />

address of the device you want to check.<br />

Note: The Ping tool supports IPv6 addresses.<br />

Timeout. Enter the amount of time (in milliseconds) for the tool to wait on a response<br />

from the device. The Ping fails if this time limit is exceeded.<br />

Count. Enter the number of data packets sent by the Ping tool.<br />

Packet size. Enter the size (in bytes) of the packets you want the Ping tool to send. 32<br />

bytes is the default.<br />

2 Click Ping to run the tool.<br />
