<strong>Ipswitch</strong> <strong>WhatsUp</strong> <strong>Gold</strong> <strong>User</strong> <strong>Guide</strong><br />

Passive Monitor Listeners<br />

Passive Monitor Listeners are applications that listen for specific information being passed<br />

across your network, or events that occur on one of your devices, then notifies <strong>WhatsUp</strong> <strong>Gold</strong><br />

when the information matches what it is listening for. Use this dialog to configure those<br />

servers according to your specific needs. For more information, see Using Passive Monitors (on<br />

page 232).<br />

<strong>WhatsUp</strong> <strong>Gold</strong> provides the following Passive Monitor Listeners:<br />

SNMP Trap. This listener monitors SNMP information being passed across your<br />

network.<br />

Syslog. This listener monitors a computers Syslog.<br />

Windows Event Log. This listener monitors the Windows Event Log.<br />

Changing how long report data is stored<br />

Ping Active Monitor data is stored in the <strong>WhatsUp</strong> <strong>Gold</strong> database to populate the<br />

performance logs available in the application.<br />

To configure <strong>WhatsUp</strong> <strong>Gold</strong> report data:<br />

1 From the main menu, select Configure > Program Options.<br />

2 In Program Options, select Report Data.<br />

3 On the Report Data section, you can change the data settings for performance monitors,<br />

active monitors, and passive monitors.<br />

4 Click OK to save the changes.<br />

You can see how many rows in the database that the data takes up by viewing the numbers<br />

under the time settings.<br />

Selecting a display font<br />

Use the Map Font to select a font for the device labels in your map views and log graphs. The<br />

fonts in the list are fonts that are currently installed and available on your computer.<br />

To select a display font for <strong>WhatsUp</strong> <strong>Gold</strong>:<br />

1 From the main menu bar on the <strong>WhatsUp</strong> <strong>Gold</strong> Console, select Configure > Program<br />

Options. The Program Options dialog appears.<br />

2 Select Map Font, then select the font and font size you want to use in <strong>WhatsUp</strong> <strong>Gold</strong>.<br />

Changing clock/regional preferences<br />

To use a 24-hour clock instead of the default 12-hour clock:<br />

1 From the <strong>WhatsUp</strong> <strong>Gold</strong> main menu, select Configure > Program Options.<br />

2 Select the Regional section.<br />

3 Select the Use 24 hour clock option.<br />

4 Click OK.<br />
