Adding and editing a SNMP Set Action<br />

This action sends an SNMP Set to a device in order to change a specific SNMP action. You can<br />

configure SNMP Set actions to perform a number of tasks, including rebooting a device,<br />

changing the state of a network remotely, disabling or enabling a device feature, etc.<br />

The SNMP Set action can use any SNMP credential defined in the <strong>WhatsUp</strong> <strong>Gold</strong> Credential<br />

Library and supports all types of writable objects (strings, integers, timeticks, etc.).<br />

If the action operation fails, errors are reported to the Action log.<br />

To add or edit a SNMP Set action:<br />

1 Click the Admin tab, then click Action Library.<br />

2 Click New, then select SNMP Set from the list to create a new SNMP Set action. Click OK.<br />

Select the action you want to change from the list of current actions, and then click Edit.<br />

3 Type or select the appropriate information in the following fields.<br />

Name. Type a name for the action. This name displays in the Action Library.<br />

Description. Type a short description. This description displays next to the action in<br />

the Action Library.<br />

IP address. Type the IP address or hostname of the device to which the action to send<br />

the SNMP Set.<br />

SNMP Credential. Select the SNMP credential that the action is to use. This list is<br />

populated with credentials currently configured in the Credentials Library.<br />

Object Identifier. Type the object identifier (OID) that the action is to use.<br />

Instance. Type the instance that coincides with the OID that the action is to use.<br />

Tip: You can browse (...) to select both the OID and instance.<br />

Value Type. Select the type of written object the action is to use.<br />

Value to set. Type a value for the type you selected.<br />

Note: The action only allows you to set one value at a time.<br />

4 Click Advanced and change the default advanced settings (optional).<br />

SNMP Timeout. Use the slider to select the amount of time (in seconds) that you<br />

want <strong>WhatsUp</strong> <strong>Gold</strong> to wait before it generates an error while attempting to perform<br />

the action.<br />

Number of Retries. Use the slider to select the number of times you want <strong>WhatsUp</strong><br />

<strong>Gold</strong> to attempt the action.<br />

5 Click OK to save changes.<br />
