a. Exchange 2003 parameters<br />

You can set thresholds on the following parameters:<br />

CPU (on page 892) Monitor CPU state on the Exchange host.<br />

Memory Monitor free memory on the Exchange host.<br />

Disk Monitor available disk space on the Exchange host.<br />

System Monitor operating system performance on the Exchange host,<br />

including context switches, CPU queue length, and system calls.<br />

Links Monitor message-handling links between mail servers. A link can<br />

contain zero or more ExchangeQueue objects, depending on the<br />

current message traffic along the link. In the Exchange System<br />

Manager, these links are called queues.<br />

Queues (on page 887) Monitor the dynamic queues created to transfer individual messages<br />

between mail servers. An ExchangeQueue is part of an ExchangeLink.<br />

ExchangeQueue objects are not the same as the queues listed in the<br />

Exchange System Manager.<br />

Cluster<br />

Monitor the state of the clustered resources on the Exchange server.<br />

This parameter will return a value of Unknown - 0; OK - 1; Warning - 2;<br />

Error - 3.<br />

Custom Thresholds Browse and select from the large number of additional parameters<br />

that Microsoft Exchange reports.<br />

b. Exchange 2003 services<br />

You can monitor the following critical Exchange services to determine whether the service is<br />

available (Up) or is disabled (Down).<br />

Information Store Monitor the MAPI message store service. The information store can contain<br />

messages, forms, documents, and other information created by users and<br />

applications. It provides each user with a server-based mailbox and stores<br />

public folder contents.<br />

Site Replication<br />

Service<br />

Monitor the Site Replication service.<br />

Management Monitor the Management service.<br />

MTA Stacks Monitor the Mail Transport Agent (MTA) service. The MTA service provides the<br />

engine for sending messages and distributing information between Microsoft<br />

Exchange <strong>Server</strong> systems or between Microsoft Exchange <strong>Server</strong> and a foreign<br />

system. Each MTA is associated with one information store. It is accessed using<br />

MAPI calls only and has no direct programmer interface with Microsoft<br />

Exchange <strong>Server</strong>. The MTA conforms to the 1988 X.400 specification.<br />

System Attendant Monitor the System Attendant service.<br />

Routing Engine Monitor the Routing Engine, which determines the routes for delivering<br />

messages to remote addresses. It forwards the message to remote Exchange<br />
