5 To collect data on unsolicited events as well, select Accept Unsolicited SNMP Traps.<br />

Note: Do not select this option when using SNMP v3 credentials.<br />

6 Click OK to close the SNMP Trap Listener Configuration dialog. Click OK again to close<br />

the Program Options dialog.<br />

To disable the Microsoft SNMP Trap Listener:<br />

1 Click Start and type services.msc in the search box. The Services console appears.<br />

2 Locate SNMP Trap Service in the list of services.<br />

3 Right-click SNMP Trap Service. and select Properties from the menu.<br />

4 Verify that the service status is Stopped. If the service status is Started, click the Stop<br />

button.<br />

5 Verify that the Startup type is Manual or Disabled. If the startup type is set to another<br />

type, select Manual from the Startup type menu.<br />

6 Click OK to close the SNMP Trap Properties dialog.<br />

Enabling the Windows Event Log listener<br />

You must enable the Windows Event Log listener to collect data for the Windows Event Log<br />

(on page 696).<br />

To configure the Windows Event Log Listener:<br />

1 From the <strong>WhatsUp</strong> <strong>Gold</strong> console main menu, select Configure > Program Options. The<br />

Program Options dialog appears.<br />

Note: If the Windows SNMP Trap Service (Control Panel > Services) is running on the<br />

<strong>WhatsUp</strong> <strong>Gold</strong> console PC, you should stop the service. This is a precaution to prevent any<br />

conflict with the <strong>WhatsUp</strong> Passive Monitor Listener.<br />

2 Click Passive Monitor Listeners. The <strong>WhatsUp</strong> <strong>Gold</strong> Passive Monitor Listeners display in<br />

a list.<br />

3 Select the Windows Event Log Listener, then click Configure. The Windows Event Log<br />

Listener Configuration dialog appears.<br />

4 Enter or select the appropriate information in the following fields:<br />

Start <strong>Server</strong>. Select this option if you would like <strong>WhatsUp</strong> <strong>Gold</strong> to listen for Windows<br />

Event logs.<br />

Do not generate payload. Select this option to only add the event time and message<br />

to the Windows Event Log; the payload is withheld from the entry.<br />

Check connections interval. Select this option to have <strong>WhatsUp</strong> <strong>Gold</strong> check for and<br />

close inactive connections at the interval you specify. The default interval is 60<br />

seconds.<br />

5 Click OK to save changes.<br />
