105regarding new international normative data, simplifying the CS and eliminating problematicvariables, and managing the number of responses. All of these are key innovations anddistinguishing features for R‐PAS. They were originally introduced, discussed, and researched asrecommendations and agenda items by the Rorschach Research Council. Consistent with thefounding of the Rorschach Research Council, the hope and expectation of the four R‐PAS on theCouncil was that we would continue to supervise changes to the CS. That goal has provenimpossible. For the Rorschach to continue as a psychologically valid and useful instrument, it hasproven necessary to develop a new system, built from the ground up and independent of theCS. R‐PAS aims to continue to solidify the empirical foundation for using the Rorschach whilefocusing on its unique contribution to assessment. Our goal is to create a clinically rich, evidence‐based, logically transparent, international adaptable, and user‐friendly systemavailable for applied practice.Rorschach Interpretation Does Not Match Its Evidence BasePossibly the most serious problem for Rorschach and the CS is that the interpretationdoes not match its evidence base, which leads to mistaken interpretations (Meyer, Viglione,Mihura, Erard, & Erdberg, 2011; Mihura, Meyer, Dumitrascu, & Bombel, in press; Viglione &Meyer, 2008). Among the more commonly used CS interpretations with little empirical supportare Zd for impulsivity, the Egocentricity Index [3r+(2)/R] and self‐focus, and white space (S) foranger. The R‐PAS solution to this problem (Meyer, Viglione, Mihura, Erard, & Erdberg, 2011),with the evidence base, focuses on scores and matched to interpretations supported bysystematic reviews of the validity literature; and more directly linking inferences to thebehavior coded in the task. The core method relied upon by R‐PAS for evaluating evidence base and selectingvariables is a meta‐analysis of the major research studies for 68 major CS variables (Mihura, etal., in press). Included in this meta‐analysis are a total of 3,106 research findings. This is a veryimportant meta‐analysis: It may be the only comprehensive meta‐analysis for a single test. Inaddition, it incorporates research from around the world and is published in a prestigious
