117The Impact on R‐PASThe impact of all these changes in R‐PAS is evident in the R‐PAS codes presented inTable 2. Many of the symbols listed there are familiar to Rorschach users, but some of thenames have changed and others have been added from literature outside of the CS.The Rorschach has been criticized as too complicated and too difficult to learn. Part of R‐PAS solution to this problem is to simplify by making variable names more understandable andeasier to remember. R‐PAS minimizes the use of extraneous terms that involved memorizingadditional and unnecessary symbols and concepts. For example, and as noted above, R‐PASdoes not include the term Developmental Quality. It is replaced with the symbol Sy forsynthesis and Vg for Vagueness. In addition, the Special Scores category is broken into Cognitiveand Thematic Codes to make them easier to remember and to provide a semantic marker tohelp new learners. Thematic Codes all have three capital letters for uniformity and easyrecognition. In support of solidifying the evidence base for the test, R‐PAS includes variableswith strong research support not found in the CS: Urist’s (1977) Mutuality of Autonomy in theform of MAP (Mutuality of Autonomy Pathology) and MAH (Mutuality of Autonomy Health);Gacono and Meloy’s Aggression Content (Gacono, & Meloy, 1994; Gacono, Bannatyne‐Gacono,Meloy, Baity, 2005) or AGC, and Masling’s and Bornstein’s, Rorschach Oral Dependency Scale(Bornstein & Masling, 2005; Masling, Rabie, & Blondheim, 1967) which is called Oral DependentLanguage (ODL) to highlight its focus on language and word usage rather than on imagery. Inaddition, space responses are broken up into Space Reversal and Space Integration responsesto be more aligned with empirical findings (Mihura et al., in press). Most unnerving or challenging to many experienced Rorschach practitioners is R‐PAS’snew left to right coding sequence order. This pertains to the order in which the codes arescored, as represented in the left to right order in Table 2. In order from left to right, one codeslocation and content, so that answers to the questions (a) where is it seen and (b) what is seen, are handled first. Next, as represented in Table 2 one codes the R‐PAS object qualities, that iswhere and how the response and its subcomponents are affixed to the blot. These includeSynthesis, Vagueness, and Pairs. At this point, there is enough information for form quality, because we know how the response is visually configured on the blot. At this point, the
