A major, organizing conclusion of this analysis is that Rorschachscores are more closely associated with externally‐assessed criteria, at r = .27, than they arewith self‐report criteria, at r = .08. Examples of externally‐assessed include observer ratings,psychiatric diagnosis, “behavioral outcomes,” (e.g. psychiatric re‐hospitalization and success inchallenging military training).In the meta‐analysis, variables classified as having “excellent support” correlate withmeaningful criteria greater than r = .33, with probability levels at p < .001 and Fail Safe numberof 50 or more. The Fail Safe number means that as is, it would take 50 or more non‐significantstudies for the finding to become non‐significant. An example of variable with excellentresearch support is the integrated DQ+ responses (the main component of the R‐PAS Synthesisor Sy). Form Quality percentages, that is the accuracy or responses, and cognitive special scoreshave substantial empirical support, so they too are retained in R‐PAS. Alternatively, theAdjusted D‐Score, Egocentricity, and the Zd have little or no empirical support, with correlationsless than 15, so that you will not find them in R‐PAS. Also excluded from R‐PAS are theEgocentricity Index [3r+(2)/R] and white space (S) is broken into two variables to be moreconsistent with the literature.All previous CS users are likely to miss their “favorite” variable. Prominent among theselost variables is the Depression Index. The Mihura et al. meta‐analysis (in press) hasdemonstrated that the DEPI is related to depression and the syndrome of depression in that itcan distinguish these from non‐depressed non‐patients. However, it does not do a good jobdistinguishing these conditions from other psychiatric conditions. Also, MOR does a better jobthan the DEPI so that for parsimony and simplicity, R‐PAS uses MOR rather than the DEPI.Other considerations were used to select the most valid and efficient set of variables forR‐PAS.
