MĂRTURII ROMÂNEŞTI PESTE HOTARE XIestablishments in Greece. Fr Iustinian Stoica, a hyerodeacon at theRomanian Skete Prodromos on the Holy Mountain, offered us detailedinformation on the Romanian items that belong to the St John Prodromosskete and recent news on the Athonite communities of Romanian monks.We express our deep gratitude to him.Based on a working protocol signed with the National Office forTribute to Heroes, attached to the State Ministry of Defence, the presentwork benefits from the considerable assistance of this institution, whosedata-base allowed us important improvements and additions to the chaptersFrance and Germany.Anca Popescu (Institute of History “Nicolae Iorga” of the RomanianAcademy) assisted us, with great dedication, in translating and correctingthe transcription of Turkish texts, and in clarifying the notes that requireda return to the primary sources, while Arshaluis Paronyan (ArmenianCultural House “Dudian” of the Armenian Church Parish, Bucharest)offered us clarifications concerning certain old Armenian works. We aremost grateful to both of them.As in volume I, we have resorted to several data-bases that are accessibleon-line, allowing us to record the latest information on the holdings ofseveral major archives and libraries, especially in France and Germany.The new bibliographical sources that our team and the above-mentionedcolleagues searched are recorded in the list of Abbreviations, which istherefore much enlarged. The sources that were surveyed for volume I, butwere not used for the present volume, are not inserted in this new list.Iuliana Deac achieved, patiently and carefully, the basic technicaledition and revision of the entire volume. Volume II benefited from theediting work of Rodica Pandele and the expertise of Anca Ivan, a technicaleditor with “Biblioteca Bucureştilor” Editing House: we are very gratefulto both of them.We wish to thank Gabriela Dumitrescu and Claudia Nichita, at theLibrary of the Romanian Academy, Department of Manuscripts and RareBooks, who helped us complete the deficient or imprecise notes.Last but not least, the gratitude of the work-team of the Institute forSouth-East European Studies goes to Mr. Florin Rotaru, General Directorof the Metropolitan Library of Bucharest who, in spite of these difficulttimes, tenaciously continues to fulfil his elected mission of supportingscientific activities aimed at a better knowledge and consideration of theRomanian cultural heritage.Ioana Feodorov
