Explanation
Both sets of catalogs are found in a dualistic and eschatological framework
(for Paul, also esp. cf. Rom 13:12). 1QS 3.13–4.26 is an apparently
pre-Qumranian instruction on the two spirits. 82 For the Qumran dualism
with ethical orientation, see B 2 (above). Between Paul and Qumran,
there is no closer parallelism between such catalogs than here (even surprising
parallels in detail exist, e.g., “walking by the spirit” in Gal 5:16
par. 1QS 4.6 and the comparisons in D 2, below). In the authentic letters
