Lethr<strong>in</strong>us. Dr. Klunz<strong>in</strong>ger describes <strong>the</strong> species <strong>in</strong>habit<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Red Sea.<br />

Verh. z.-b. Ges. Wien, 1870, pp. 750-756. Lethr<strong>in</strong>us xanthochilus is a new<br />

species, p.-753. He is quite right <strong>in</strong> stat<strong>in</strong>g that L. mahsenoides (C. & V.) is<br />

not <strong>the</strong> fish described under <strong>the</strong> same name by Bleeker, but is L. abbreviatus<br />

of Peters. The Recorder considers L. rostratus (C. & V.) and L. longirostris<br />

to be very dist<strong>in</strong>ct species.<br />

Guichenot, who describes a Crossoderma madagascariense (g. et sp. n.), Nouv.<br />

Arch. Mus. v. p. 194, pi. 12. fig. 1.<br />

BERYCIDJE.<br />

Holocentrum. Dr. Klunz<strong>in</strong>ger (Verh. z.-b. Ges. Wien, 1870, pp. 720-726)<br />

describes <strong>the</strong> species <strong>in</strong>habit<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Red Sea; H. platyrrh<strong>in</strong>um, described as<br />

new (p. 725), is evidently based on young examples of one of <strong>the</strong> new species.<br />
