The first of <strong>the</strong>se papers conta<strong>in</strong>s an historical <strong>in</strong>troduction to <strong>the</strong> study of<br />

Infusoria, a short exposition and resume of <strong>the</strong>ir structure, and descriptions<br />

of forty-two known species. In No. 2 twenty-eight mar<strong>in</strong>e species occurr<strong>in</strong>g<br />

at Warberg are described, of which eleven are considered new by <strong>the</strong> author.<br />

In No. 3 a list of thirty Infusoria is given as observed <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> sea at Wisby,<br />

Gothland; eleven are described, of which six are given as new.<br />

GREEPF (I. c.) has made some most <strong>in</strong>terest<strong>in</strong>g observations<br />

on <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>tegumentary, digestive, and reproductive systems of<br />

Epistylis flavicans, Ehr. He f<strong>in</strong>ds below <strong>the</strong> outer sk<strong>in</strong> of most<br />

of <strong>the</strong>se creatures certa<strong>in</strong> pear-shaped or oval bodies, which he<br />

considers to be true trichocysts, and th<strong>in</strong>ks that <strong>the</strong> staff-shaped<br />

bodies described as such <strong>in</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r Infusoria are nei<strong>the</strong>r trichocysts<br />

nor touch-corpuscles, but skeletal organs. Greeff has also<br />

observed <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> same species an apparent dist<strong>in</strong>ction of sex,<br />

hair-shaped bodies like spermatozoa becom<strong>in</strong>g developed <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>
