J. F. SCOTT (Ent. M. M. vii. p. 156) notes <strong>the</strong> occurrence of Opilus mollis<br />

and Callidium variabile at sugar placed as a bait for moths.<br />

• PERRIS (NOUV. et faits div. p. x) records two Xecrophorus vestigator, two<br />

Catops u-atsoni, and ten specimens of a Homalota found <strong>in</strong> a dead Ceramhyx.<br />

OBERTHUR (Ann. Soc. Ent. Fr. 4 e ser. x. Bull. p. xlix) records large<br />

quantities of Coleoptera fly<strong>in</strong>g near or runn<strong>in</strong>g on <strong>the</strong> surface of <strong>the</strong> ground<br />

close to <strong>the</strong> crater of Vesuvius, and suffocated <strong>in</strong> small holes exhal<strong>in</strong>g hot<br />

sulphurous vapour. Emery (Pet. Nouv. 26, p. 104) recapitulates <strong>the</strong> prior<br />

accounts of Costa and Carusi on <strong>the</strong> same subject.<br />

BUTLER (Ent. M. M. vii. p. 59) records Spaight's evidence of certa<strong>in</strong> large<br />

Lucanidce and Longicornia at Moultan, N. India, habitually saw<strong>in</strong>g off small<br />

branches of trees <strong>in</strong> order to get at <strong>the</strong> exud<strong>in</strong>g sap.<br />

PERRIS (NOUV. et faits div. p. xi) adds Euc<strong>in</strong>etus meridionalis, Elater nigerrimus,<br />

Dorcatoma setosella, Pogonocherus decoratus, and Asemum striatum to<br />

his list of <strong>in</strong>sects <strong>in</strong>fest<strong>in</strong>g P<strong>in</strong>us maritima.<br />

Ital. ii. p. 295. The same author (Pet. Nouv. 25, p. 100) makes some observations<br />

on Cavern collect<strong>in</strong>g:<br />

JOSEPH (JB. schles. Ges. xlvii. pp. 169-172) discusses <strong>the</strong> distribution of<br />

species <strong>in</strong> different caves of Car<strong>in</strong>thia, and <strong>the</strong>ir general geographical extension<br />

; he also notes certa<strong>in</strong> facts concern<strong>in</strong>g cave-<strong>in</strong>sects which appear to<br />

PETTITT (Canad. Ent. ii. pp. 53, 65, 84, 102, 117, 131, 151) cont<strong>in</strong>ues his<br />

list of Coleoptera from Ontario, from <strong>the</strong> Hgdradephaga to <strong>the</strong> Bhynchophora<br />

<strong>in</strong>clusive, conta<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g several spp. not previously recorded <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Canadian<br />

lists ; and (/. c. p. 156) records <strong>the</strong> result of sift<strong>in</strong>g for beetles at Ontario.<br />

PACKARD (Canad. Ent. ii. p. 119) gives a list of Coleoptera collected at<br />

Caribou Island, Labrador, Straits of Belle Isle, <strong>in</strong> which are <strong>in</strong>dications of<br />

some new spp.<br />

In protocol of 47th meet<strong>in</strong>g of Soc. Imp. des amat. des sc. nat. &c. at<br />

Moscow, January 1870, pp. 233-237, is an enumeration by Ballion of Coleoptera<br />

from Irkoutsk. Indications of new species occur <strong>in</strong> it.<br />

.SCHIODTE (Nat. Tids. ser. 3, vol. v. pp. 543, 514) makes sonio additions to<br />

<strong>the</strong> Danish list of Cerambycidce, Bupvestidec, and Elateridce.<br />

SCHWARZ (JB. schles. Ges. xlvii. p. 188) records Coleoptera found on <strong>the</strong><br />

Galatz Alps.<br />

Fuss (Verh. siebenb. Ver. viii. lift. 3, p. 335 et seq.) gives a catalogue of<br />

2810 spp. of Coleoptera occurr<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Siebenbiirg district.<br />

^ KITTKL (20th Ber. Ver. Augs.) gives additions to and corrections of <strong>the</strong> list<br />

of Coleoptera of Augsburg published <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> 12th and 19th publications of <strong>the</strong><br />
