RITSEMA, Tijdschr. Ent. (2) v. pp. 185, 186, makes a few remarks on
Westwood's new order Achreioptera, and on the species Platypsyllus castoris.
He defends his own priority of the description in Pet. Nouv. Sept. 15, 1869,
and considers the insect only sufficiently distinct from the Pulicida to form a
family Platypsyllida, of equal value to Pulicida, both belonging to the suborder
Suctoria = Aphaniptera.
BOLD, Tr. North. Durh. iii. pt. 3, p. 378, mentions Pulex talpa, from a
field-mouse at Cheviot.
GUYON, C. R. lxx. pp. 785-792, publishes a note accompanying the presentation
of the work called " Histoire Naturelle et Me'dicale de la Chique,
Rhynchoprion penetrans, Oken," in which he mentions how the French Expedition
to Mexico was troubled by this pest.
ROULIN, C. R. lxx. pp. 792-796, publishes an additional note on the same
insect, mentioning a parallel case in which a military expedition was troubled
in South America.
