Westwood's new order Achreioptera, and on <strong>the</strong> species Platypsyllus castoris.<br />

He defends his own priority of <strong>the</strong> description <strong>in</strong> Pet. Nouv. Sept. 15, 1869,<br />

and considers <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>sect only sufficiently dist<strong>in</strong>ct from <strong>the</strong> Pulicida to form a<br />

family Platypsyllida, of equal value to Pulicida, both belong<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> suborder<br />

Suctoria = Aphaniptera.<br />

BOLD, Tr. North. Durh. iii. pt. 3, p. 378, mentions Pulex talpa, from a<br />

field-mouse at Cheviot.<br />

GUYON, C. R. lxx. pp. 785-792, publishes a note accompany<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> presentation<br />

of <strong>the</strong> work called " Histoire Naturelle et Me'dicale de la Chique,<br />

Rhynchoprion penetrans, Oken," <strong>in</strong> which he mentions how <strong>the</strong> French Expedition<br />

to Mexico was troubled by this pest.<br />

ROULIN, C. R. lxx. pp. 792-796, publishes an additional note on <strong>the</strong> same<br />

<strong>in</strong>sect, mention<strong>in</strong>g a parallel case <strong>in</strong> which a military expedition was troubled<br />

<strong>in</strong> South America.<br />
