A letter preserved <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Library of <strong>the</strong> Boston Society of Natural History,<br />

records " <strong>the</strong> attack, capture, and destruction of a very large spider by a small<br />

blue mud-wasp," which pursued its prey by scent.<br />

An <strong>in</strong>terest<strong>in</strong>g paper, treat<strong>in</strong>g specially upon <strong>the</strong> structure and use of <strong>the</strong><br />

falces of spiders. That part of a large number of known species of various<br />

recognized families and genera is described, and an analytical table of <strong>the</strong>se<br />

(based upon differences <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> structure of <strong>the</strong> falces) is given.<br />

This is, <strong>in</strong> fact, two Papers,-<strong>the</strong> notes by Dr. Wright, <strong>the</strong> list and descriptions<br />

by Mr. Blackwall. The notes are brief, chiefly upon <strong>the</strong> locality<br />

<strong>in</strong> which <strong>the</strong> spiders were found (at an elevation of about 3000 feet <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

immediate neighbourhood of Nicolosi). The List conta<strong>in</strong>s 27 species, of<br />

which 7 are described as new, one form<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> type of a new genus, Vtenophora,<br />

with which and Galena, C. Koch, Mr. Blackwall constitutes a new<br />

family, Qenophoridce.
