Acicula veneta, proposed by Pirona <strong>in</strong> 1865, now established as a dist<strong>in</strong>ct<br />

species by E. de Betta, Malac. Venet. p. 89, Verona and Belluno. The author<br />

suggests that <strong>the</strong> figure given by L. Pfeiffer <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> new edition of Chemnitz,<br />

Cyclostomacea, pi 30. figs. 29-31, for spectabilis (Rossm.) represents this<br />

species. The same is mentioned as Acicula spectabilis (Rossm.) ?, from Pirona,<br />

•Monte Baldo, and Ud<strong>in</strong>e, by Betta, Moll. Veron. pp. 102, 103.<br />

Acmella, Blanf., elevated to generic rank. Testa ovata, cornea, apertura<br />

ovata, peristomate obtuso; operculum corneum, tenuissimum, paucispirale,<br />

nucleo excentrico, s<strong>in</strong>istral! Animal Assim<strong>in</strong>ece simile, proboscide brevi,<br />

tentaculis brevibus, obtusis, oculos <strong>in</strong>super haud proeul ab extremitatibus gerentibus,<br />

pede mediocri ovato. A. tersa, Bens., lives <strong>in</strong> moist places, near small<br />

streams, but not upon <strong>the</strong>ir edges, at a height of 4000 feet above <strong>the</strong> sea, <strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> Khasi Hills. L<strong>in</strong>gual dentition not yet ascerta<strong>in</strong>ed. The author admits<br />

that it may be allied to Assim<strong>in</strong>ea. Blanford, Ann. N. H. (4) vi. pp. 368-<br />

(see Zool. Rec. vi. p. 582).<br />

Islands. It is not ascerta<strong>in</strong>ed whe<strong>the</strong>r it really belongs to that genus.<br />
