INSECTA, HYMENOPTERA.<br />

COUPER (Canad. Ent. ii. p. 113) makes observations upon <strong>the</strong> economy<br />

of an unknown Ichneumon, of which about 40 specimens were bred by him<br />

out of a spider's cocoon found at Montreal.<br />

The larval stages of a parasite (presumed to be an Ichneumon) upon a<br />

black spider are detailed by Lichtenste<strong>in</strong> (Ann. Soc. Ent. Er. 4 e stir. x. Bull.<br />

p. lxxii).<br />

KAWALL (S. E. Z. xxxi. p. 108) mentions large <strong>in</strong>dividuals of Pimpla exam<strong>in</strong>atov<br />

(Grav.) bred from Hyponomeuta padella. He also records a curious<br />

5 specimen of Xylonomus rufipes (Grav.); suggests that Mesostenus niveatus<br />

(Gr.) is <strong>the</strong> cf and M.pyyostolus (Gr.) <strong>the</strong> 5 of <strong>the</strong> same species; and describes<br />

<strong>the</strong> cf of Rhyssa curripes (Gr.), and a queried 9. var. of Cryptus abiom<strong>in</strong>ator<br />

(Gr.).<br />

Ichneumonides.<br />

TASCHENBERG (Z. ges. Naturw. 1870, Bd. ii. pp. 209-272, 309-416,<br />

449-470) tabulates <strong>the</strong> species of Ichneumon, Gr, with l<strong>in</strong>ear or l<strong>in</strong>ear-elliptic<br />

spiracles to <strong>the</strong> abdomen, consist<strong>in</strong>g of Chasmod.es (p. 213), Exophanes (ibid.),<br />

Ichneumon (p. 214 et seq.), Amblytel.es (p. 252 et seq.), Catadelphus (p. 205),<br />

Acolobus and Hepiopelmus (p. 266), Anisobas and Listrodromus (p. 2G7), Probolus<br />

and Eiivylabus (p. 268), Platylabus (p. 269 et seq.). Diagnoses of and<br />

observations upon <strong>the</strong> various known spp. of <strong>the</strong>se genera are given (p. 369<br />

to end), and two new species are described, some synonymy (especially of<br />

WesmaeTs spp.) also be<strong>in</strong>g given. Chasmodes motatatorius (Gr.) is mentioned<br />

as bred from Caradv<strong>in</strong>a aivee (p. 369) ; C. paludicola (Wesm.) and<br />

Exephunes occupator (Grav.) from pupas of Nonagvia iyphce (p. 370); Ichn.<br />

satiivatovius, Gr, from Calamia phragmitidis (p. 395) ; I. exornatus, Gv,<br />

from Geometra junipevata (p. 402) ; Amblyteles fasciatorius (Gr.) from Brotolomia<br />

HOLMGREN (Eugenies Resa, Insecta, i. pp. 395) describes <strong>the</strong> males of<br />

Ichneumon ledandei, St.-F, from C. of Good Hope.<br />

TASCHENBERG (B. E. Z. xiv. p. 425) describes an hermaphrodite example<br />

of a new species of Amblyteles (cf. Z. ges. Naturw. 1870, Bd. ii. p. 450).<br />
