(1868), 1996-2001 (1870), <strong>in</strong> this paper gives a translation of Passer<strong>in</strong>i's<br />

work, <strong>in</strong> which <strong>the</strong> Aphididae are divided <strong>in</strong>to 6 tribes, and adds notes of<br />

his own on many species belong<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>the</strong> various genera.<br />

Phylloxera vastatrix (Planchon). Targioni-Tozzetti, Bull. Ent. Ital.<br />

pp. 68-76, treats at some length on <strong>the</strong> development and habits of this <strong>in</strong>sect,<br />

and illustrates his paper with draw<strong>in</strong>gs of <strong>the</strong> creature <strong>in</strong> various stages of development.<br />

Under <strong>the</strong> title " Entomologia Agraria,' /. c. pp. 202-206, <strong>the</strong>re<br />

is a fur<strong>the</strong>r reference to this genus.<br />

Phylloxera. Lichtenste<strong>in</strong> (Ann. Soc. Ent. Fr. (4) x. Bull. p. x) gives<br />

an account of his observations made dur<strong>in</strong>g a journey with Planchon to<br />

v<strong>in</strong>eyards <strong>in</strong>fested by this <strong>in</strong>sect. He advocates <strong>the</strong> use of bisulphuret of<br />

calcium for <strong>the</strong>ir destruction, and believes <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>sect attacks <strong>the</strong> healthy<br />

v<strong>in</strong>es, a belief which is not shared <strong>in</strong> by ei<strong>the</strong>r Signoret or Guer<strong>in</strong>-Meheville.<br />
